Stefan's handle picturesThis gallery shows pictures of a hobby of mine - making handles for (Japanese) kitchen knives from exotic woods. You will find several albums that show different types of handles and one album with pictures of my own kitchen knife collection. This is a 'work in progress' and I will continually update this over the next few weeks. The pictures are selections because I did not take photos of everything I ever made. Please feel free to comment on any of the the pictures! If you have one of my handles, please post a picture in the 'Guest pictures for Stefan's handles' album, and there is also another album for custom handles from other makers. There are so many great pieces by Daniel O'Malley, Fish, and all the great custom makers out there, so please post them - no registration necessary.

Hawaiian Handles

These are handles that are made from predominantly Hawaiian woods. I have moved to Hawaii in 2005 and I love the Islands and the life style out here. The local Hawaiian woods are among the most fascinating ones that I have come across and I will most likely increase the proportion of handles made from local and sustainable woods over time.

Burl woods

Ebony and blackwood handles

These handles have predominantly dark/black woods with colorful accents of different materials. I like the contrasts and have made a few of them, enough to show them in their own album.

If you have one of my handles, I would be very happy if you could post one or more pictures here to show what it looks like on the knife. Please also mention the knife you are showing them on. File size is limited to 1MB and I usually re-size them to 1024pixel for the longer side. Just upload them, choose the 'guest pictures' album, add any comments you like - done. My own knives

These are pictures of my own kitchen knives. Many more have passed through my hands, but this is the core that I am very likely to keep in the future. - This album still needs a lot of work, I haven't kept up well with taking pictures...
