Stefan's handle picturesThis gallery shows pictures of a hobby of mine - making handles for (Japanese) kitchen knives from exotic woods. This is a 'work in progress' and I will continually update this over time. If you have one of my handles, please post a picture in the 'Guest pictures for Stefan's handles' album, and there is also another album for custom handles from other makers. There are so many great pieces great custom makers out there, so please post them - no registration necessary. Hawaiian Handles

These are handles that are made from predominantly Hawaiian woods. I have moved to Hawaii in 2005 and I love the Islands and the life style out here. The local Hawaiian woods are among the most fascinating ones that I have come across and I will most likely increase the proportion of handles made from local and sustainable woods over time.

Burl woods

Ebony and blackwood handles

These handles have predominantly dark/black woods with colorful accents of different materials. I like the contrasts and have made a few of them, enough to show them in their own album.
